Hello all, first post
A few weeks ago I bought a 7D and a 24-70 2.8L lens.
I've been experimenting quite a bit but the sharpness so far is dissapointing in many pictures, particularly portraits. Even with plenty of shutter speed the faces tend to be very soft.
I considered the lens/body might be front or backfocusing so I started experimenting with the AF micro-adjust function of the camera. To my susprise, the effect of changing the setting appears to be exactly zero. I can set -5, -20, +10 or whatever...the sharpness is not noticably different.
I used the pattern and test method from here as well http://www.northlight-images.co.uk/article_pages/cameras/1ds3_af_micoadjustment.html and still, the micro-adjusts seem to be making no difference.
I did find out that 8/10 times the AF will be correct (as in : impossible to improve with MF) but the sharpness is still only in between focus and out of focus. I could accept this at F2.8 but even at F4 life isn't much better.
Anyone any suggestions?
I know the 24-70 lenses can be hit or miss, I am getting a 70-200 2.8L IS in about a week from now, then I can compare.
Still, I'm quite puzzled at this point
Some RAW files of shooting in the garden can be found here (sharpness is OK compared to portraits here, but especially the tree shots are bad http://www.greenringer.net/various/sharpness/RAW/ )
Cheers
