Hallo Nikon-Gemeinde!
Also:
<font color="ffff00">AF problem with Tokina AT-X Pro SV 28-70mm 1:2,8
Good morning!
I am using a Tokina AT-X Pro SV 28-70mm 1:2,8 for Nikon AF. It works perfectly when focussing from near to far, but in the opposite direction far to near it is blocked. Only after half-pressing the release button several times it finally reaches focus step by step. Is this a known mal-behaviour of this lens? And if so, is it worth repairing it? And further, is there an authorized repair workshop in Germany, possibly near Hamburg, or should I send the lens directly to you?
Best regards and thanks in advance, Matthias Siercke
Darauf die Antwort von Tokina:
<font color="119911">Dear Matthias,
An issue concerning with back and/or front focus is known when using Tokina lenses which are not designed for digital camera's on these camera's. Unfortunately this issue can not be solved. However we have not enough information to know if this is the case with your lens.
Please s end the lens to the address below for further service....
Back and/or front focus? Also nochmal "zum mitschreiben":
<font color="ffff00">this is not a back or front focus issue, that I was talking about. And I do not use the lens with a digital camera, but with good old analogue F80 and F100. It is rather a purely mechanical problem. The AF can easily be turned by the camera's motor in the direction from near to far (i.e. from short to long focusing distance), but it is mechanically blocked in the opposite direction, as I already described below. In manual focus it works fine, and it even works with AF when I "help" the AF motor by slightly turning the focus ring. This works, of course, only with the focus ring in MF position, but the problem is also there with the ring in AF position.
Jetzt ist es doch angekommen:
<font color="119911">In that case, we are able to service this lens for you.
We will wait for the arrival of your lens.
<font color="ffff00">following your advise I sent the lens out to you 10 days ago by DHL. Did it already arrive?
Ja, ist es:
<font color="119911">We received your lens, and we made a price estimate.
Focus mechanism must be replaced.
Total cost: 185,- euro incl. send cost.
Na ja, besser als wegwerfen. Wenn es denn sonst in Ordnung ist.
<font color="ffff00">Can you confirm that the lens is otherwise in good shape and worth the money? If yes, please repair it. If not, please give me advise what to do.
Beruhigende Bestätigung:
<font color="119911">Your lens is the repair cost really worth, for this price your lens will be as new.
Also los!
<font color="ffff00">that sounds good! In that case, yes, please repair the lens and send it back me. I will transfer the money to your account as soon as you send me the invoice.
Kostenvoranschlag war gemacht ("Total cost: 185,- euro incl. send cost"), also konnte die Rechnung ja kommen. Aber nein! 9 Tage später:
<font color="ffff00">still no news and no invoice from you! What is happening? I am prepared to transfer the money immediately (and I would like the lens back).
Da hatte ich wohl jemanden geweckt...
<font color="119911">We are sorry for the delay. I was under the impression that the proforma invoice was allready sent.
Please find the proforma invoice attached to this message.
The repair of your lens will commence now, after receiving the transfer we will send the lens.
Überraschung! Der Kostenvoranschlag war zwar inkl. Versand, aber ohne Mehrwertsteuer. Nochmal Zähne zusammenbeißen und das Geld überweisen:
<font color="ffff00">the money should be on its way, I just transferred it online.
By the way: Your price estimate (see your e-mail below) was 185 EUR incl. shipping, but you didn't mention that VAT was not included. That may be "legally" correct, but it is not very helpful when you deal with ordinary non-professional end-customers like me. So I was really was a bit surprised when I looked at the invoice. But no worry, I transferred the entire amount incl. VAT.
<font color="119911">Please excuse us for not informing you about the VAT. This definately should have been mentioned earlier.
We will return your lens this week.
<font color="ffff00">the week has passed, but no info and still no delivery from you. You received my lens by end of March and you must have received my money early this week. So what is going on?
<font color="119911">Your lens was returned on the 19th of April. It will probably arrive this Monday.
<font color="ffff00">you are right, the lens arrived today.
But actually it is in much worse shape than before!! The AF might be ok, I don't know, I didn't check. But now the zooming is broken. It used to zoom very well and smoothly from 70mm down to 28mm, but now it is blocked at approx. 35mm. The rest from 35mm to 28mm is not usable.
I will send the lens back to you tomorrow, at your expense of course. And I request you to repair it completely and immediately (as to what I paid for) without any extra cost and send it back to me within 1 week.
<font color="119911">We will repair your lens as soon as it arrives here. We are sorry for the inconvenience.
Of course the sent and repair costs will not be charged.
Thank you for your patience.
<font color="ffff00">the lens just arrived back and now it seems to work well, both the AF and the zooming. Thanks a lot.
As you wrote below "Of course the sent and repair costs will not be charged." Actually the cost for sending the lens back to you, 8,60 EURO as I mentioned in the accompanying letter, did not yet appear on my account. I attached the online receipt from DHL and here is my bank account again:...
<font color="119911">We will transfer the amount to your account this week. And we are glad that the lens arrived in good order this time.
Was sagt Ihr? Hat jemand andere, hoffentlich bessere Erfahrungen gemacht?
Gruß, Matthias
